eCommerce: Formulation of Strategy
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (28 June, 2000)
Author: Robert T. Plant
Average review score:

I knew Dr. Robert T. Plant
I personally have met Dr. Plant, and I would never have purchased this book if it wasn't required for this class. Dr. Plant last worked in industry almost 20 years ago, and has spent those years in an academic silo. He's certainly no expert, and this book is evidence of it. As someone who has actually implemented e-business solutions for a number of large companies, Dr. Plant's 'ideas' are worthless in the real world. This book is more marketing hype and 'internet bubble' dreamery than reality. Save your money. (And if you are forced to take his class, try to get out of it.)

Great book to read when starting an ECommerce site.
This book is very informative on starting an ECommerce site. I especially like the instruction it gives on PLANNING the website and strategy beforehand. The book also discusses the important elements of creating a website, one being Top Management buy in.

eCommerce another powerful channel
The book is excellent but misses out on highlighting the really big successes that established brick and mortar companies gain by adding the Internet as part of their multi-channel marketing, distribution, manfacturing and design and development activities of products and services.

These multi-channel organizations will do 80% of the eCommerce on a global basis. The author should come out with a sequel with a lot of case studies of the incredible success stories of multi-chanel organizations use of Internet technologies.

The Interactive Marketplace: Business-To-Business Strategies for Delivering Just-In-Time, Mass-Customized Products
Published in Digital by McGraw-Hill ()
Author: Keith T. Brown
Average review score:

The Bubble Bursts
I have not read the book (but had to give a rating), but Brown's world ("BuildNet," et al)crashed and burned in 2001 with tens of millions of debt, bankruptcy, liquidation and lawsuits against the officers, directors and others -- much of which is about this strategy. Use your own judgement on where this book leads you.

Still pionyant
Need a good guidebook to B2B? Here it is. This is how to make your .com a investment succcess story. Sometimes hard to follow without a lot of college but OK if you are a computer whiz. Four stars up!

What will happens in the future on B2B? Read this.
I have read the book. It give me impression that it is like a future story book, but in the near future. In my opinion, timeframe will be within 5 years in US, but 10 years in foreign countries. What will happens like the book describes will be based on the infrastructure of high-bandwith internet and online purchasing peoples up to the critical numbers. I am not an expert on these, but I believe it will come very soon. Anyway, it is worth to read. English is not my mother tongue, but I read it just like I read a novel, no reading problems. worth it.

Blueprint to the Digital Economy: Creating Wealth in the Era of E-Business
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Trade (31 May, 1998)
Authors: Don Tapscott, Alex Lowy, David Ticoll, and Natalie Klym
Average review score:

A Solid Effort!
Drawing this blueprint to the digital economy required the combined labors of three editors (Don Tapscott, Alex Lowry and David Ticoll) and various expert authors drawn from academia, research and corporate leadership. The 20 essays that make up the book focus on industrial transformation, new rules for competing in the e-age, the computer-based network model and changes in government structure and policy in a networked world. The high-level authors contribute thoughtful articles, though some ideas overlap and some thick spots of techie language and academic theorizing emerge along the way. More problematic, since the e-commerce environment changes so quickly, the book has a slight air of déjà vu. Its discussion of emerging trends freezes in flight and becomes a kind of fluid history of a particular time in e-business' evolution. Still, we recommend this book - for the fascinating movement it captures - to the general reader interested in business- and information-age topics and to top managers.

A must read book(Blue print to digital Economy)
It is a great opportunity to write a review about this book. In short words I will say The Digital Economy is a must read book. This book is useful for seasoned businessmen, new entrepreneur, investor, and any one who wants to know what is the effect of information revolution in modern world. Should one be scared that there is going to have a drastic change in the business philosophy? To find an answer one must read this book. This book is divided into four parts, The New Rules of Competition, Transformation in Industry Due to Digital revolution, Interworked Enterprises in modern Digital age, and Governance in Digital Age. This book is valuable resource, rather I would say, is a must for any entrepreneur. Also this will be a valuable source of information for modern managers. I feel glad to have gained more information from this book I strongly recommend this book to every one who is being a part of Internet. Business, individuals who browse the net for news and information, and people who contribute information on to Internet. This book beautifully analyzes the impact of modern digital technology on business strategic, and it's socio-economic behavioral pattern.

A truthfully understable "organic organization" profile
It does a good job of depicting the pros and (today's) cons of the digital economy and its foundation the "organic organizations". Nothing to clash but to evolve from the old pyramidal or tree looking org chart that all we do know never works entirely in that way. A must for every one involved in a corporative enviroment today or aspiring to form its own one.

Great for Quixtar Neophytes
This would be a great book for the Quixtar neophyte. It isn't a "must read" for the advanced user though all should be familiar with it as a reference for assisting low-tech & no-tech IBO's.

Great book on the site and power of idea behind it.
I really enjoy this book. Shows the power of the site and gets me fired up everytime I read parts of it. Great how to but so much more, shows the different partner stores and some of the items they sell. Also goes into Ditto delivery with great detail and this is a big help.

In the Company of Good and Evil: A True Story of Seduction and Betrayal
Published in Hardcover by Cricketsong Books (04 February, 2002)
Authors: Ken Power and Craig Winn
Average review score:

This is an aweful book
This is truly one of the worst books I have ever read. It might as well been titled "Craig Winn rants about the people he hates while praising himself" because that is all that is really accomplished here. I will say one thing though, if you've read David Kuo's Dot.bomb (and if you haven't you should) this book becomes somewhat interesting because it really shows off how warped a man Craig Winn really is. It is a truly sickening account of the events that transpired (btw, those sensitive about racist/sexist comments should probably avoid this book as well).

On last note, please notice that all the good reviews of this book are from people who remained anonymous. I wouldn't be surprised it they were written by Crain Winn himself.

Now I know what's killing Corporate America!
This book should be mandatory reading for all Corporate executives and especially all boards of directors. It clearly spells out just what must have happened at Enron, Global Crossings, K-Mart, WorldCom, and so many other bankrupt companies. It's the so called "professional" mangement's pocket-lining greed, unchecked by the board which results in spriraling economic sdeath to the companies, the employees, the shareholders and to everyone EXCEPT the managers. Cudos to Power and Winn for an expose' that finially tells it like it is. Everyone can learn from this one.

Entertaining and an Excellent "Lessons Learned" Account
Ken Power et al does an excellent job of turning several years of memories and experiences into a very readable and detailed behind-the-scenes account of what happened with ValueAmeria. For me, the book became a text book on subjects like IPO, private funding, road shows and passing the baton from founder to CEO. The authors balance enough factual detail with colorful background to make the book interesting. I couldn't put it down. Admittedly (and understandably) self-serving in areas, the book provides insight about what all dot.coms experienced - from people who played on the field rather than watched from the bleachers.

e-Enterprise : Business Models, Architecture, and Components
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (April, 2000)
Author: Faisal Hoque
Average review score:

Don't Bother - No Value Added
I read two-third of the book and I feel less intelligent for it. Mr. Hoque used the letter "e" in front of every big word and never illustrated how "e" or internet would actually change the business environment. The Internet allows information to flow to almost anyone, and in a business environment, this can add tremendous value, yet, Mr. Hoque never explained or showed how this would occur. Also, his analysis on the supplier value chain was so superficial, that no value could be gained from reading that section.

E-Enterprise: ¿Well worth your time!
Being an MBA/MSE student, I primarily picked this book to supplement concepts learned in my E-commerce class. My hope was to gain a more detailed insight into e-commerce strategy. I was not disappointed.

This book is jam packed with valuable models, insight and very useful advice. Hoque provides a structured, informative outline of fundamental B2B and B2C business concepts that you need to consider and understand in order to accomplish a successful transition to clicks-and-mortar. He presents a well-defined blueprint from "Brochureware" all the way to E-enterprise and explains the benefits of integrating the extended value chain model into your business model. The book is easy to read and Hoque makes excellent use of relevant examples from companies such as GE, Ariba and Cisco to name a few. He makes good use of tables and figures, although I do feel they could have been made more comprehensive in certain involved chapters. E-Enterprise has the advantage of being a recent publication and most of the information presented in the book is still very applicable, unlike other books that are barely a year old and are close to being obsolete. This book is an excellent resource for all-level management, entrepreneurs and generally all who are interested in the dynamics of a true, sustainable strategy for transformation and "re-transformation".

Read it. It's well worth your time!

Highly Recommended!
It's tough to pick up a magazine or turn on the television these days without someone telling you that you must turn your company into an e-company in order to survive. But once you get past these exhortations to "embrace change," it's surprisingly hard to find any practical advice on how to integrate e-commerce into your company's business plan. Therein lies the value of Faisal Hoque's e-Enterprise, which disposes of generalities and plunges headlong into an explanation of online business models, applications, architecture and tools. For the technologically challenged, this book will go down like castor oil. But if you are running a business - any business - Hoque's exhaustive blueprint to creating a true e-business will be exactly the right medicine. For that reason, we at getAbstract.com implore executives and managers to bite the techie bullet and read this book, which also will satisfy even the hardest-core geeks with its encyclopedic guide to the components that constitute the building blocks of the e-Enterprise.

Making Money in a Health Service Business on Your Home-Based PC
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Professional (02 May, 1997)
Authors: Rick Health Service Businesses on Your Home-Based Pc Benzel, Paul Edwards, and Sarah Edwards
Average review score:

Too general
There was not enough information as far as I was concerned. I think there are other books out there that are more specific and contain far more information.

Not enough depth into the subject.
Vendors mentioned are not in business now. The topics are way to generic. He doesn't even own his own business and I still had so many questions after reading this book. I don't ususally comment on books but felt there were other books out there which provided more insight.

Excellent resource for those interested in medical billing.
I read Rick Benzel's first edition years ago and found it to be highly informative. His second edition is clearly researched and reflects the changes in the healthcare industry. I would recommend this book as a prerequisite for anyone contemplating self employment in this field. He covers all areas and gives a comprehensive look at the healthcare service business. As a medical billing service owner and consultant for 18 plus years, I feel qualified to give this book two thumbs up!!

Antiqs4u, Inc. Buyers/Sellers Guide, Ebay Auctions and More
Published in Paperback by Antiqs4u, Inc. (February, 1999)
Authors: Diane Rudy, Virginia Bacon, and Dale Rudy
Average review score:

Completely useless
This pamphlet (I wouldn't even call it a book) provides absolutely no useful information that you can't get from ebay itself. It might be helpful to 3rd graders, because it's written at their level, but for anyone else, don't waste your money. I decided to return it immediately upon seeing it and reading a couple of pages.

The only thing it's good for is scamming money from unsuspecting customers to profit the "authors" (and I use that term lightly).

I'd give it no stars if that was an option.

"eBayTM Auctions, Buyers/Sellers Guide and More"Antiqs4u,Inc
This is a recitation of what you can find yourself on eBay, only this contains incorrect English. This booklet was published by the authors. The only helpful part was a several page discussion of what is selling well now in collectibles.

Ebay Auction Guide, Direct and Informative
I enjoyed the book because it was straightforward. The authors did a good job condensing a lot of information from a variety of areas into easy reading. I was especially happy to find that the chapter on how to add photos to my descriptions was so easy to understand. I've been using one of the examples for completing the transaction and it has worked well for me. I have always wanted to start my own business selling antiques on Ebay and after reading this book, I have a clearer picture of what all is involved and how to get started.

The Business Guide to Selling Through Internet Auctions
Published in Digital by Maximum Press ()
Authors: Nancy L. Hix and Patrick M. Byrne
Average review score:

The eBay Dinasour's book
This book is so outdated, you're better off ignoring it. I'd guess that maybe 30% of the material pertains to eBay, even that's a stretch.

I found the author to ramble at times, stroking they're own ego. I also found the detail quite boorish, almost as if the author wanted to fill out the book's length. If you're a newbie to online auctions, avoid this book, and get the Dummy's book. If you're an experienced eBay seller (say, 50 feedback or so), you don't even need this book. Save your cash.

THE internet auction survival tool.....
Internet auctioning has changed tremendously over the last couple of years. To say this book is a DEFINITE *MUST HAVE* if you want to make a successful living selling using the online auction format - would be an understatement.

Details on every aspect of the process - featuring information on ALL the current auction formats are contained in this book. From perfecting online photos and digital images to customer service - this is definitely the insiders tool of the trade.

Ms. Hix has covered every little detail......I would equate this book as the "bible" for internet auctioning.

Another winner!
This is the second book of Nancy's I've read, and her straightforward approach and common sense advice is great for those wanting to learn more about the online auction business. I highly recommend it.

New Retail Power and Muscle : Remarkable weapon to win the war at the point of sale, beyond clicks-and-mortar
Published in Paperback by BRG Publishing (June, 2000)
Author: Thomas E. Austin
Average review score:

Strategic vision
I like the fact that this book is short. It leaves out all of the nonsense and gets right to it by delivering a new idea to win the war at the point-of-sale, which is what the title promises. This book is NOT about fixing tactical retailing problems - it's about a forward thinking strategic vision.

Clever vision for retailers
I like the fact that this book is short. It leaves out all of the nonsense and gets right to it by delivering a new idea to win the war at the point-of-sale, which is what the title promises. This book is NOT about fixing tactical retailing problems - it's about a forward thinking strategic vision.

Jerry Miller, CIO & Senior Vice President, SEARS Roebuck
Your view of the retail customer's point of sale experience today and in the very near future is 100% on track. The technology exists today to implement what the book predicts. It is a clear definition of what it will take to win in the new "clicks-and-mortar" retail world. Well done Tom!
